Downton Abbey 2 film sequel

Cast return for a movie sequel due in cinemas in December.

Downton Abbey 2, a the sequel to the first Downton Abbey film from 2019 — has officially been announced.

Production began last week with Hugh Bonneville, Jim Carter, Laura Carmichael and Michelle Dockery.

Dominic West has joined the cast along with Hugh Dancy (Black Hawk Down), Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Nathalie Baye (Catch Me If You Can).

The script will also feature Australian character Christine Mary Bloss, a friend of the Crawleys.

Creator Julian Fellowes is writer with Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge returning to produce alongside Fellowes, and Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn) joining to direct.

“After a very challenging year with so many of us separated from family and friends, it is a huge comfort to think that better times are ahead and that next Christmas we will be re-united with the much beloved characters of Downton Abbey,” said Neame.

It is expected in cinemas in December 22.

  1. Watching Downton Abbey The Movie the other night and it was my gut feeling the character of Dowager Countess of Grantham was the last we see of her. Of course nothing occurred on screen but they hinted at something.

  2. The first film had spent a lot of time giving Maggie Smith a send-off, but I would nevertheless be disappointed if she doesn’t return… even if that means that we have to suspend disbelief as her character would probably be 120 by now if we were to follow the continuity of the series. :P
