Line of Duty biggest UK drama in 13 years

Most-watched drama episode outranks Bodyguard and Downton Abbey.

Line Of Duty’s Season 6, which is currently screening in Britain, last week drew an impressive 11 million viewers making it the most-watched television drama episode in the UK since 2008.

That honour went to Doctor Who’s Christmas Day special in 2008, which was watched by 11.7M viewers.

The drama by writer / producer Jed Mercurio tops his own hit Bodyguard, which drew 10.4m in 2018.

Line Of Duty also beat the best performing episodes of Downton Abbey, which hit a high in 2011 when 10.6m watched the Season 2 finale.

The finale is due to air this week.

Line of Duty is currently screening in Australia via Britbox.

  1. I’m still waiting for some news regarding a second season of Bodyguard, with Line of Duty now conclude Bodyguard must be next in line.
As a British police procedure show Line of Duty was a cut above the rest, maintaining a remarkable production consistency, I am looking forward to SE06.

  2. I’ve only just discovered this show and am binge-watching my way towards series 6. This is awesome drama that deserves every plaudit sent its way.
