Local sport coming to Kayo Freebies

VFL, Intrust Super Cup & Nat. Jnr Basketball matches to stream free on Kayo.

Kayo Sports will add local sports with matches from select local leagues available free via Kayo Freebies.

They include VFL, Intrust Super Cup with at least two exclusive VFL games per round and one exclusive Saturday fixture per round in the Intrust Super Cup, all Live and free, plus plus the National Junior Basketball Championships.

Kayo Sports Marketing Director Kim McConnie said: “Kayo’s decision to stream local sports competitions aims to bring national exposure to sporting clubs all over Australia as they get back on their feet after a 2020 season drastically impacted by the pandemic.

“Local sport is not only critical to the sporting landscape in Australia, but is often the centre of communities across the country, and we are proud to give so many local leagues the platform they deserve and showcase their talent next to the elite, professional competitions.”

AFL Head of Talent Pathways and State League Competitions, Tristan Salter, said: “We are so excited that VFL footy is back. All 22 clubs play a vital role in keeping their suburban and regional networks engaged. They are pillars of their local communities and so important to growing and nurturing our national code.

“Kayo’s new streaming offering to state league competitions is a real boost for the VFL across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland and we know the legion of supporters are looking forward to the return of the VFL season and there is much for fans to look forward to, whether that be attending matches or watching on Kayo.”

QRL Chief Operating Officer, Rohan Sawyer, said: “We are seeing a real shift in engagement across competitions that feed into the elite game and making that content available live and free to fans drives immense value back to our game. Kayo have clearly identified this early and we look forward to working with them on increasing this offering.”

In addition to streaming local sports leagues, Kayo is also launching a new campaign to support community sports clubs across the country.

As part of the campaign, Kayo are providing 50 $1000 cash grants to lucky rugby league and Aussie Rules clubs in NSW and Victoria, with participating clubs also given the chance to win one of ten Ultimate Kayo Days at their local ground, which will include the presentation of the cash grant, a visit from the Kayo Toyota Hilux packed full of giveaways and games and a special guest appearance by a sporting great. Any local sports club in Australia will be able to register for a Kayo supporters sticker and complimentary 12 month Kayo subscription.

The initiative will be supported by Kayo’s presenting partner, Toyota Australia. Two Kayo-branded Toyota Hilux vehicles will be at the centre of the NSW and Victoria activations and be used to transport talent and merchandise to local community sports grounds. Toyota Australia, a long term supporter of grassroots sport, will also sponsor the “Match of the Round” during Kayo Freebies broadcasts, ensuring greater exposure for, and access to, the streaming of local sports.

Sports fans can access Kayo’s local sports coverage via Kayo Freebies by downloading the Kayo Sports app or visiting www.kayosports.com.au/freebies and registering for a Freebies account. Kayo Freebies are free, and no credit card details are required to register and start streaming.

      1. Thanks heaps David for answering my question 🙂 . It’s interesting to see Foxtel putting content exclusively on Kayo, I wonder if there will be unhappy satellite subscribers with missing out on content despite paying more and if this will further affect satellite subscribers numbers.

        1. This is a good point. I signed up for the ‘freebies’ just to have a look and noticed there is other stuff (not free) that we don’t get as Foxtel sports subs, which seems ridiculous given how much we pay.
