ABC’s live music show The Set returns for Series 3 on Saturday, co-hosted by Dylan Alcott and Linda Marigliano.
The Set is a live music TV show filmed in the midst of a ‘house party’. With a live audience scattered throughout a purpose-built share house set, the show feels like a band playing a gig at your mates’ home.
Kicking off this week is Missy Higgins and Birdz performing songs live before linking up for a special one-of-a-kind collaboration called The Set Piece, where they’ve chosen to cover an all-time R&B hit.
Coming up this season are:
Genesis Owusu & The Chats
Hiatus Kaiyote & Emma Donovan and The Putbacks
Lime Cordiale & Miiesha
You Am I & Fanny Lumsden
Paull Kelly, Ziggy Ramo & Eves Karydas
Ruel & Cubsport
The Jungle Giants & Sycco
Kwame & Julia Stone
Peking Duk, The Amity Affliction & Jesswar
Special guests Tasman Keith, Ngaiire and Patience Hodgson (The Grates)
Saturday 24 April at 8pm on ABC TV Plus.

Although The Sound had some amazing visuals and impressive performances, I found the music seemed to skew a bit too mainstream, but then I guess they were trying to aim for as broad an audience as possible. I’m happy The Set is returning though, and will definitely watch. I seem to recall there were extended episodes (with extra songs) shown of The Set in the past, is this not happening now?
Great to see live music back on TV! Will ABC’s other music program The Sound be coming back?
The way I understood it from previous information is that The Set is instead of The Sound. Shame really because I’d prefer The Sound but I’ll watch a couple of these.
The Sound was Gudinski’s baby so…
Be great to have it back, but don’t hold your breath.
I can’t see it.. .Saul Shtein producer has also moved on. It was really one of the most imaginative things in 2020, some stunning music moments in the most unexpected locations.
