10 confirms Celebrity MasterChef return

Melissa Leong, Andy Allen & Jock Zonfrillo will officially return to judge celebrities slaving over a hot stove.

10 has now confirmed Celebrity MasterChef Australia is “coming soon” following ongoing speculation about the show.

“A legendary sports person, an Aussie icon and a famous actor are ready to don a MasterChef apron and face the heat of the famed MasterChef kitchen. Watch this space as we spill the tea on more famous faces set to join the culinary fun,” it announced.

Judges Melissa Leong, Andy Allen and Jock Zonfrillo will all return.

Andy Allen said: “Melissa, Jock and I can’t wait to swing open the doors to the MasterChef kitchen and welcome these famous faces. It’ll be a multi-talented group who step into the kitchen, but will they be at the top of their cooking game?”

The revival was first teased by judges in a radio interview last year and rose again this week in an article in The Australian.

Celebrity MasterChef previously screened on 10 in 2009 with Michelle Bridges, Peter Rowsthorn, George Negus, Wendy Harmer, Josh Thomas, Kirk Pengilly, Alex Perry, Indira Naidoo, Rachael Finch and winner Eamon Sullivan.

It is expected to screen in Q4 this year (to be confirmed).

Celebrity MasterChef Australia is produced by Endemol Shine Australia.

  1. Well I will be watching….sounds great to me…
Anything MC is not hard to watch….and no nastiness…..which suits me just fine.

  2. Understand the networks don’t have the same budgets as even just a few years ago, and there is still covid impacts, but what an uninspired / boring decision. So looking like Celeb BB on Seven vs. Celebrity MC on 10? Nine might be the winner here…

  3. I assume this will be 4ish weeks alongside bachelorette or something airing after masked singer (sun to Tues).
It could work as a weekly Sunday show though for 8 weeks. Masked singer mon/Tues, bachelorette Wed/Thurs

  4. Why not try an Australian version of the circle or bring back shark tank they only have themselves to blame if they burn the brand i am watching the regular version but that’s it

    1. Pretty sure Netflix owns The Circle rights. Shark Tank isn’t a stripped show. Networks don’t really have the kind of money any more to mount 3 or 4 different shows for entertainment slots in a single week.

      1. I believe Channel 4 still own the rights to the Circle though they are open to selling them to Netflix now they no longer plan to air another UK series.

The issue with The Circle is that all formats worldwide are shot in the same block of flats in the UK. That would mean sending all cast and crew to the UK. They would need to hotel quarantine in the UK for 14 days if they transit Dubai, Doha, Istanbul etc. Then they would isolate as they filmed the show and then do hotel quarantine on their return to Australia. As well as being very expensive it would mean contestants could spend 8+ weeks in isolation which wouldn’t be much fun. The last thing you would want to do after winning the Circle is go straight into hotel quarantine.

  5. Yuck. More to life than Masterchef 10, time you opened your horizons and tried something new and bold. Not miserable reheated Masterchef off cuts.

  6. I still really love MasterChef. The journey is a slow burning but always worthy one to be on. But a celebrity version (like the Juniors) is gonna be a switch off for me.

  7. Twelve or so weeks of this will be pretty brutal and soul destroying, especially with two hour plus episodes , endless recaps and very low levels of actual new content/footage per episode.
