10 returns to Pilot Week in 2021
Exclusive: 10 showcase returns with the network officially on the hunt for new unscripted shows.

EXCLUSIVE: 10 is returning to Pilot Week in 2021 -and is now on the lookout for original unscripted shows with ‘a distinctive Aussie flair.’
2021 will mark the third Pilot Week for 10 which was held over in 2020 amid the pandemic.
2018 and 2019 Pilot Weeks marked rare showcases in television to test new ideas, with viewers invited to send feedback.
Previous events led to seasons for Drunk History Australia, Kinne Tonight, Trial by Kyle, and briefly for Taboo and Saturday Night Rove.
Daniel Monaghan, Head of Programming, 10 ViacomCBS, said: “We are thrilled to see the return of Pilot Week this year. It is such a great opportunity to showcase creative projects from our talented production community, and then determine what resonates the most with our audience.
“Pilot Week has resulted in a number of the pilots being commissioned for full seasons, and we expect this season to be no different. We can’t wait to get started.”
10 is now on the hunt for shows that can emulate the joy of MasterChef Australia, the irreverence of Have You Been Paying Attention?, the grit of Australian Survivor, the passion of The Bachelor Australia, the heroism of Ambulance Australia and the wonder of The Masked Singer Australia.
A date for Pilot Week is yet to be announced.

Surely the trouble here is networks only really throw money at multi-week, multi-night formatting Australia, not something you can really showcase in a one-off broadcast pilot.
10 should revive Hey Hey it’s Saturday as a limited number of episodes. Or try some game shows.
I’ve got one for them. Get a group of random strangers, put them into a custom built house somewhere with the space, ummm…Dreamworld maybe. Get an experienced, likeable person to host, someone from The Masked Singer. Gretel Killeen would do. You film the strangers for 3 months and see what happens. They nominate eachother for eviction and the public vote them out, last person standing wins $500k. If Mike Goldman’s not busy he can narrate it. Just an idea.
I’m excited for this to return! Still have my fingers-crossed for another season of Taboo or Drunk History Australia.
And weren’t those previous “events” a great success?

Given that none of those shows were particularly successful, one wonders why Ten bothers with another pilot week.
Unscripted only? Ho, boy. Talk about unambitious. Even short film pilots could have gone a long way for scripted concepts looking to branch out into a full-fledged series without breaking the bank.
Expect more tedious panel shows with the same old “Roving Enterprises” mob, and overnight ratings of around 163,000 to 237,000.
They could have also used Pilot Week to trial potential Paramount+ shows. After all, 10 have previously aired The Twilight Zone reboot and the pilot episode of A Discovery of Witches in order to promote 10 All Access.
