Eurovision announces new timeline for state vs state American contest on NBC.

The American Song Contest, a much-discussed US version of the Eurovision Song Contest, is set for 2022.

It was previously announced for late 2021. A state vs state contest was previously flagged in 2017 and as far back as 2008.

A co-production between Propagate and Universal Television Alternative Studio, it will screen on NBC representing all 50 states, 5 United States territories and the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C.

Competing to win the country’s vote for the ‘Best Original Song’ will be solo artists, duos, bands or even a DJ, contrasting different styles including country, dance, electronic, pop, rap, R&B, rock and more.

The live Contest consists of three rounds as the acts compete in a series of Qualifying Rounds, followed by Semi-Finals and the ultimate Grand Final.

Martin Österdahl, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, said, “For 65 years the Eurovision Song Contest has connected people far and wide. As owners of this hugely successful format, we have seen how it has found a place in millions of hearts across Europe and beyond.

“Now we are excited to have found the perfect partners to share this unique competition and its passionate celebration of music and original songs with the American people.”

Submissions to represent each state or territory is already underway.

The Eurovision Asia Song Contest was due to be staged by SBS in 2017.

    1. Sadly so. So much for the “diversity” and “inclusion” that the US entertainment industry bleats endlessly about.

      I’d actually be keen on a proper American Eurovision equivalent that includes North and South America.

  2. And, I think it’s a safe bet the winner will get a wildcard to represent the US at the following Eurovision a la Australia/Guy Sebastian in 2015.
