Axed: The Irregulars

Netflix cancels its youthful twist on Sherlock Holmes after just six weeks.

That was quick.

Netflix has cancelled its supernatural drama The Irregulars, a youthful twist on Sherlock Holmes, after just one season.

Set in Victorian London, the show only debuted in late March. It centred around a gang of troubled street teens who are manipulated into solving crimes for the sinister Doctor Watson and his mysterious business partner, the elusive Sherlock Holmes. Cast included Thaddea Graham, Darci Shaw, Jojo Macari, Mckell David, Harrison Osterfield, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Royce Pierreson and Clarke Peters.

Deadline reports the acing comes despite the series landing on Netflix’s top 10 list and edging out The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in Nielsen’s weekly U.S. streaming charts at the end of April.

A stark reminder that not everything gets a free pass in the Streaming world…

  1. Apparently The Irregulars has had good viewing numbers being in the top 10 in the US and UK, two top markets for Netflix, pulling in 643 million minutes of viewers streaming time across its 8 episodes, the show also had a 78% approval rating by critics but did drop to 55% when audience scores are factored in.
Netflix do have history dropping shows after one season and The Irregulars has become another statistic, personally I think this Sherlock fantasy story had done its dash, misusing classic characters is risky..

  2. I’m actually not surprised. I’ve only got the final episode to go… but I’ve mostly found it incoherent, unfocused and borderline nonsensical… worst of all, it was laborious to get through…. that’s despite it looking fantastic. Not to mention the acting was scratchy from some of the main cast and its beyond stupid how they tried to twist the Holmes side of things into something it never will or should be…

    1. I disagree, I often find I enjoy a new series only to be let down by subsequent series, getting trapped in, well I’ve watched it this far (TWD prime example) What rule is there it has to be multiple series’s’s,
On this series, I found there was enough to keep me watchiing but too many sub plots that got lost in each other
