Rob Mills wants to host Australian Idol revival

"Wouldn't it be great if there was an Australian Idol alumni to host a new series?" says Rob Mills.

Former Australian Idol finalist Rob Mills has his eye on a new TV gig for 2022.

Last week on the blue carpet for RuPaul’s Drag Race: Down Under with partner, ABC’s Georgie Tunny, he told TV Tonight, “TV wise, it’s been a lot of meetings. So who knows? But wouldn’t it be great if there was an Australian Idol alumni to host a new series of Australian Idol?

“Wouldn’t that be some great synergy?”

Mills made the Final 5 of Season One of Idol back in 2003 and has maintained a profile through stage and TV work, including hosting the 2012 revival of Young Talent Time for 10 plus Celebrity Apprentice, Neighbours and on The Masked Singer.  He performed in Chess: The Musical in Melbourne last month, with Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth to come.

Seven announced an Australian Idol revival for 2022 in their last Upfronts.

But does ‘Millsy’ feel he is better suited to judging or hosting?

“Hosting. I feel like I’ve got a lot more to offer, going around the country to meet the people. We shall see!”

  1. Knowing Ch 7 they will get Sonia to host both The Voice and Idol. I don’t mind Rob Mills as host but would prefer Luke Jacobz who just won Dancing with the Stars and was great as host of X Factor.

  2. Rob Mills was also on a very entertaining but short lived show on nine, where there were singers, I think, singing the next line of songs. Very hazy on the memory, apart from the fact I enjoyed the show.

  3. Good idea, I’ve always been a fan of Millsy. He was my favourite idol in season one. Just wish it was back on ten. To me, Millsy is more a nine or ten personality. If seven have already picked up the Voice can they please consider giving Idol back to ten?

  4. I think Rob would be a great host actually. Great energy, love for the brand and a fresh face too would be nice.
Unfortunately I don’t see this being successful. The Voice and this…

Seven is like a little child atm.. trying to take everyone’s toys and throwing them in their box.. and it’s overfilled with cheap toys and breaks.

  5. Rob would be perfect for that role. I would love to see Gretel back hosting something big. She was really the perfect host for a big format.

  6. I would love to see Millsy do this. Wouldn’t it be refreshing to see someone new hosting a show? Since it can’t be Osh given the network, I’d be right behind this.

  7. Pending the ratings performance of Seven’s revamped “The Voice Australia”, I question the hosting duties of Australian Idol will be given to Sonia Kruger. I don’t want Rob Mills either but I’m in accord with him that it ought to be an Australian Idol alumni.
