SKY News Regional coming to Southern Cross

News channel will launch on August 1 across six states and the ACT.

A SKY News Regional channel will launch on the Southern Cross network across in 29 markets across six states and the ACT from August 1st.

SKY News on WIN, currently airs in regional QLD, Southern NSW & ACT, Griffith, Regional VIC, Mildura, Tasmania, Eastern SA and Regional WA and Northern NSW & Gold Coast. WIN recently signed a new affiliate deal with Nine.

The Australian reports the new channel will broadcast on Channel 56 across 17 of SCA’s regional markets nationally, including the Sunshine Coast, Townsville and Cairns, southern NSW and Canberra, Wollongong, Wagga Wagga, Orange, Ballarat and Bendigo.

SKY’s relationship with WIN was due to end but the reworked deal will see the new channel appear on the WIN channel 53 in northern NSW, Channel 83 in Griffith, NSW and also in South Australia.

“As we celebrate 25 years of broadcast in Australia, we look forward to introducing new television audiences to our unrivalled news coverage, together with informed analysis and context from our leading journalists and commentators.”

Southern Cross Austereo CEO, Grant Blackley said: “Our commitment to provide news and entertainment to
regional Australia is core to our charter. We are delighted to be able to ensure regional Australians will have access to the high calibre and diverse programming this new partnership with SKY News delivers.”

into select markets of the WIN Network. We also want to thank SKY News for working with us since 2018 to deliver Sky News on WIN for Australian regional audiences.”

Southern Cross and Network 10 are yet to formally announce plans, including whether all multichannels 10 Peach, 10 BOLD and 10 Shake will screen regionally.

  1. If SCA has taken Sky over 10Shake then 10 should renig on the deal. Get rid of the that shopping channel SCA has that everyone deletes from their TV sets.

  2. Very good news. While I have Foxtel, I do still watch Sky News on free to air and it’s easier for me to record Outsiders on free to air. It’s particularly pleasing that people without Foxtel will still be able to choose to watch Sky News if they want to. Nobody is forcing anybody to watch it, but it’s great that people can have choices of viewpoints and news outlets.
