Travel Guides: May 26

The ancient city of Istanbul is the jumping off point for Travel Guides tonight.

Nine’s Travel Guides reviewers tonight are in Turkey.

Our Travel Guides take on Turkey for a week-long holiday full of exotic culture, history and unexpected surprises. This land at the crossroads of Europe and the Middle East is one of the most popular holiday playgrounds in the world but will it be a Turkish Delight for our Guides?

The ancient city of Istanbul is the jumping off point for our Travel Guides. They base themselves in the authentic old quarter of Sultanahmet and find out what it took to be a Sultan in the Ottoman Empire. The royal treatment continues at the 600-year-old Topkapi Palace, one of the largest and best-preserved palaces on the planet.

The Grand Bazaar is the biggest market in the world, and our Travel Guides are keen to hunt for a Turkish bargain and learn the hard way about bartering. Our Guides take their new purchases for a cruise on the Bosphorus Strait and meet some locals who are almost too friendly.

Our Guides disembark near the Galata Bridge where they try the local specialty – a fresh fish sandwich. For some of our Guides it is culinary heaven, for others, it’s a disaster. Before they leave Istanbul, our Travel Guides try the most Turkish of experiences, the Turkish Bath.

This all-nude bubble bath combined with a massage and spa treatment sees some of our Guides pushed to the edge.

7:30pm tonight on Nine.
