AFL gives Seven easy Thursday win

Ratings: A Brisbane v Geelong match outranked all entertainment shows. Tough night for public broadcasters.

It was an otherwise quiet Thursday once again but Seven’s AFL coverage ensured a comfortable win over rivals.

The Brisbane v Geelong match drew 582,000 viewers across the network, outranking all entertainment shows. Meanwhile it was a very tough night for public broadcasters.

MasterChef Australia led in early evening entertainment at 541,000 then 7:30 (506,000), an extended Home & Away (499,000 / 412,000 from 7pm), Foreign Correspondent (430,000) and RBT (419,000).

Later a MasterChef Masterclass was 366,000 then Paramedics (334,000), Q+A (299,000) and King’s Cross ER (295,000).

Seven network easily won Thursday with 34.0% then Nine 24.5%, 10 18.7%, ABC 16.1% and SBS 6.7%.

Seven News was #1 at 1.05m / 989,000 for Seven. Strictly speaking The Chase was the top entertainment show of the night at 544,000 / 353,000 metro viewers.

Nine News (937,000 / 895,000) was best for Nine. A Current Affair won its slot at 683,000 then Hot Seat (470,000 / 293,000).

The Project was 418,000 / 264,000 for 10. 10 News First drew 386,000 / 246,000. A repeat of Law & Order: SVU managed 147,000.

ABC News (681,000) was best for ABC. Sammy J pulled 332,000 with something called Chicken People flopping at just 97,000.

On SBS it was SBS World News (164,000 / 133,000), Great Asian Railway Journeys (136,000), Mastermind (76,000), The Unusual Suspects (74,000) and Rodman: For Better or Worse at just 53,000.

Bluey topped multichannels at 206,000.

  1. I doubt the ABC were expecting to be able to crow about the numbers for the chicken doco, but it still did 25% better than a certain much touted SBS program…

Not Happy Jan ……last night one episode of home and away then switch to 72 and I had it recorded for three episode on seven why do they do this …as a very loyal viewer of home and away … how do I catch up now ….because the old days they would replay all the weeks episodes on 72 on sunday afternoon but i checked the guide they do not do this anymore
