Apple TV+ drama The Mosquito Coast was renewed this week for a second season.
“The Mosquito Coast has captured the imagination of viewers all over the world, not only because of its adrenaline-fueled action and adventure but also for the engaging family story and captivating performances at its heart,” said Matt Cherniss, Apple’s head of programming, in a statement. “We can’t wait to find out what comes next for the Fox family, and for audiences to continue to experience the thrill ride.”
Based on the book by Paul Theroux, it follows idealistic inventor Allie Fox (Justin Theroux) as he and wife (Melissa George) uproot their family and take them to Mexico, as they run from the U.S. government.
The book was previously adapted as a 1986 film starring Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren & River Phoenix.

I agree with one critic who said that the Harrison Ford film lasted two hours which was more than enough to tell the tale and now the producers of this series of The Mosquito Coast have converted the plot to last nearly seven hours, with rumoured plans for another four seasons to come.
The Allie Fox character is a sociopath and not that pleasant, the shows writers will be working overtime to clean him up for an extended multi-season run.
The film was chilling, and Harrison Ford at his diverse acting chops best (it was a challenging role too), also something different for Mirren and a then star (RIP!) Phoenix too.
I’m really enjoying it. It has a nail biting edge to it at times, and it’s pulsating as a result. The 4 family members are all top notch casting imo… I mean, I’d watch Justin Theroux reciting the dictionary… such is his screen presence. He is the most underrated lead actor on TV.
