SBS has now confirmed Season 2 of War of the Worlds will premiere on both broadcast and SBS on Demand in August.
Season 2 sees the characters left reeling by the possibility that the invaders could be human. A tense fight to take back the planet awaits them. For some, the sheer desperation to survive will lead them to contemplate sacrificing one of their own…
Filming of 8 new episodes began in July 2020 and wrapped in October.
The US – French series starring Gabriel Byrne and Daisy Edgar-Jones is written by Howard Overman, although does not credit author H.G. Wells as inspiration. They’re joined by Léa Drucker, Natasha Little, Stéphane Caillard, Adel Bencherif, Ty Tennant, Stephen Campbell Moore, Bayo Gbadamosi, Aaron Heffernan and Emilie de Preissac.
Episodes returned in France last month.
Updated: 9:30pm Wednesday August 18 on SBS.

I really enjoyed the first series, and I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but Ive watched up to Ep 4 on S2 and it’s totally run out of ideas… S2 is super slow (more so than S1) and honestly not that interesting…hopefully they have saved the best for the last couple of episodes.
No spoiler alert then.
Errr…no facts or plotlines of S2 despite it’s already being out and will have been so for several months by the time SBS shows it ergo ;no spoilers’.
Well, that’s interesting …. I wondered why they pulled the adverts for the new season. David has there been any explanation for pushing it back a couple of weeks?
Absolutely loved the first series and watched it twice. So glad it’s coming back for 2nd series. Thanks for heads up David and just put in my diary to watch. Yay!
Whilst the show really had next to nothing to do with the title (of which I am a massive fan), I still found it a thrillingly well done drama. I’m hoping season 2 includes a little more of H.G. Wells’ DNA though.
No, even less (as indicated in the end of the last ep of S1). Really shouldn’t have that illustrious title attached to it.
So glad to hear this at least there will be something to watch on tv soon.
Won’t be bothering with this-1st season was dull and absurd in places-and no bloody tripods at all!
