  1. Very healthy AFL ratings in Brisbane on 7 for the simulcast era (Foxtel + Kayo). Best in a decade for a season game.
NRL are now rushing in a new franchise to the Brisbane market ahead of a new free-to-air TV deal, which is yet to be struck. Very interesting what’s happening in the SE Qld market. More competition and diversity of choice is great at the end of the day. Broadcasters need more sports inventory to compete with Netflix, Disney+ etc.

  2. Before I read earlier comments, I was genuinely going to write:
Over 100,000 watched the AFL in Brisbane. Pretty impressive figures for NRL territory – 7 must be very happy.

  3. Top of the table clash and being the only code of football on TV in Brisbane and it only gets 107,000 in Prime time. Poor
Top of the table clash and being the only code of live sport in Brisbane and it only gets a crowd of 29,000
I’d hate to see the Crowd & TV ratings for a losing AFL team. ….A huge problem for the AFL.

    1. No need to start a code war, but it wasn’t top of the table – Melbourne is top.
My comment was that it is a great result if, in a non AFL state, you can get a higher average than 4 of the last 5 NRL games. I would hardly call that poor and in context I have highlighted Broncos are near the bottom, Lions are near the top. Just Unusual to see.

    2. Brisbane is NRL territory… It’s all positives for the AFL and Channel 7 in regards to Tv ratings and crowd. Brisbane lost against Melbourne a couple of weeks ago on Friday night competing with the NRL and still did considerably well. If you’ve seen all the metrics and you compare them to 2019/20, there’s a problem with the NRL for Brisbane, not AFL

  4. Wow – they’re quite big AFL numbers for Brisbane. I know the Lions are doing well and Broncos are down the bottom of the ladder, but it’s rare you would get higher numbers than what the NRL have been getting up there recently.
