UK filming resumes on Father Brown

Mark Williams returning as the crime-solving Roman Catholic priest for a ninth season.

Filming has resumed in the UK on a new season of Father Brown.

The new 10 part series will include a special programme to mark the 100th episode,.

Mark Williams returns as the crime-solving Roman Catholic priest based on stories by GK Chesterton. The series was previously renewed for two seasons in 2019 but production was put on hold last year due to lockdown.

“We love telling our stories as much as the world loves watching them. A modest, warm daytime drama that achieves one hundred episodes and global success. Who’d have thought it?” said Williams.

Returning cast members include Sorcha Cusack (Mrs McCarthy), Jack Deam (Inspector Mallory) and John Burton (Sergeant Goodfellow), Alex Price (Sid Carter), Nancy Carroll (Lady Felicia), Emer Kenny (Bunty Windermere) and John Light (Hercule Flambeau).

Father Brown broadcasts in over 232 territories around the world, including on ABC in Australia.

Will Trotter, Executive Producer for BBC Studios, says: “It’s an incredible achievement to get to 100 episodes. The much loved show goes from strength to strength.”

Series nine will air in the UK in early 2022.

  1. I didn’t realised they hadn’t even filmed any of it, I thought it was just interrupted. I wonder if the announced spin-off, the Sister Boniface Mysteries, is still going ahead.
