Farmer Wants a Wife finale …and the media scrutiny

It's a happy ending for 3 couples, as media turn the spotlight on farmers behind the scenes.

On air it ended with three couples finding TV love, but the finale of Farmer Wants a Wife wasn’t without some scrutiny by other media.

The show by Fremantle / Eureka continues to be a hit for Seven with plenty of viewers following Farmers Andrew, Matt and Will to their happy ending.

26 year old Farmer Matt chose 25 year old Executive Assistant Tara saying, “I am extremely happy, obviously now that I know how Matt feels finally after all these weeks. I’m excited to see what the future holds for us.”

39 year old Farmer Will chose 32-year-old nurse Jaimee saying, “I’ve done some soul searching and all my advice was ‘go with your gut’. I’ve decided I choose you if you’ll have me?”

30 year old Farmer Andrew chose 27-year-old community relations worker Jess saying, “From the moment I met you, there was instant chemistry. I love that you are so driven and that you’ve got solid goals that you want to achieve in life.”

According to the Daily Telegraph Andrew and Jess (pictured above), who are still together after filming wrapped over six months ago, fell for each other early in production and asked to leave. She claims producers deliberately tried to keep them apart and couldn’t tell the other girls of their connection.

“The producers of FWAW acknowledge that being a contestant on a reality television show trying to find love is challenging and can be stressful at times,” a spokesperson for Fremantle said.

“The producers of FWAW have in place extensive policies and procedures to create a safe environment for all parties involved in production and we continue to offer support to all our contestants.”

More concerningly, A Current Affair reported Farmer Sam Messina has pleaded not guilty to seven domestic violence charges and has been ordered to stay away from his ex-girlfriend, who claims she fears for her safety. He was arrested and charged with seven domestic violence offences against his ex-girlfriend – including four counts of assault – in March. These pertain to alleged incidents in 2020.

It also claimed an apprehended domestic violence order was taken out against for a period of two years.

A Seven spokesperson: said, “Seven was definitely not aware of the assertions made about Sam Messina when the cast of Farmer Wants A Wife was selected. We understand the allegations are being strongly defended and we would not wish to – and cannot – pre-empt the court’s decision.”

Comment provided to Channel 9 by Matthew Ward, Morrisons.

“Mr Messina has no criminal history. He has never previously been charged with any criminal offence. He has always strongly denied the allegations and cooperated with Police in their investigation. Mr Messina wishes to make no further comment whilst the proceedings are before the Court”.

A Farmer Wants A Wife Reunion will air following the Olympics.
