IOC: 2032 Olympics announcement

At 6:30pm on Wednesday, Brissy will be ready to pop the champers.

“The winner is Brisbane?”

An announcement of the 2032 Olympic Games will be made at approximately 6:30pm AEST on Wednesday, perfectly falling in primetime coverage.

As an unopposed candidate Brisbane is expected to be formally announced.

Expect to see Live coverage across most channels.

Following the announcement a press conference will also be held at South Bank, Brisbane.

ABC News will also screen The Winner is Brisbane? at 8pm (rpt 10:30pm ABC in Qld)

  1. It’s not unimposed – it’s being given the games before other countries ever had the chance to put bids forward, four years ahead of schedule.

    Just because they’re being open about it doesn’t make it any less corrupt than some previous host city decisions.

    1. 14 other cities expressed interest, but the IOC now decides years earlier based on things like least amount of new infrastructure required and rotation to avoid competitive bids and rushing at the last minute causing costs to explode. It was Oceania’s turn so Brisbane was the only serious contender, especial once the people of Montreal protested and forced their government to pull out. Coates is now lobbying for billions ins sports funding to win Gold Medals and cure obesity.

      The Sydney games caused massive damage to Sydney because Government focused on the circus and ignored crucial long term infrastructure spending for two decades.

  2. It will be interesting to see if the announcement as memorable as Juan Antonio Samaranch announcing “…the winner is Sydney, Australia”.
