Is lockdown a gift to the Olympics?

TV ratings for the Games may well be in line for a boost due to an extended lockdown.

Yesterday when NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian announced a further extension to a Sydney lockdown, did she just give Seven a boost to its Olympic Games coverage?

Short answer: yes.

While the Games formally commence with the Opening Ceremony on Friday July 23, the first events are actually next Wednesday. Australia takes on New Zealand in Women’s Football at 9:15pm.

The Sydney lockdown is currently set to run until Friday July 30 -a full week of Olympic coverage.

Sydney audiences who are unable to work from home (and even many who do) will be able to enjoy wall to wall Olympics.

It’s some compensation for Seven which has seen the Games bumped by a year and now without crowds at most events.

  1. Shaun Micallef’s sketch about the special Olympic box set edition of ‘Midsummer Murders’ is likely to be more accurate-this continues to evolve into a full scale disaster.

    1. Agreed – the whole thing is Lunacy – The Japanese people don’t want it, The Japanese Government doesn’t want it. It’s the IOC who are pushing it through with the threat of fines.

Quite a few sports people will not be attending – No crowds – Asking the athletes to leave after their event so they miss the hype and closing ceremony.

And IMHO, a powder keg With Planes ready to take them all home across the globe form one of the hottest spots of Covid in the world
