Returning: Why Women Kill

Previously at SBS, Marc Cherry drama now premieres on Paramount+.

Series 2 of Why Women Kill will premiere on Paramount+.

The series by Marc Cherry (Desperate Housewives), had a S1 premiere at SBS (which also announced S2 for 2021).

S2 will feature a new ensemble cast and storylines, all set in 1949, that will explore what it means to be beautiful, the hidden truth behind the facades people present to the world, the effects of being ignored and overlooked by society and, finally, the lengths one woman will go to in order to finally belong.

Cast include  Allison Tolman (Fargo, The Gift), Lana Parrilla (24, Spin City), B.K. Cannon (Switched At Birth), Jordane Christie and Matthew Daddario.

Allison Tolma plays Alma, a zaftig frump, who sets her sights on joining an exclusive garden club for well-heeled ladies in suburban, post war America. It’s here where she meets Rita (Lana Parilla), who runs the garden club with an iron fist and indulges in some sinister extracurricular activities.

August 11 on Paramount+.

  1. Season 1 premiered on 10 All Access, actually, in August 2019 – and then was licensed to SBS later. There’s even an article on this site about the 10 All Access premiere and the sudden dropping of plans to add it to 10Play (probably because a deal was made with SBS):

Sounds like ViacomCBS is happy to do the same thing again for season 2, which suggests we won’t be seeing many Paramount+ “exclusives,” but rather, early premieres.

  2. First Five Bedrooms, now this. Hopefully this doesn’t mean ViacommCBS/Paramount+ shows that air on other platforms outside their home market all starting to move back to Paramount+?

Am thinking particularly of shows like Star Trek Discovery (Netflix) and Picard (Prime Video), The Good Fight (SBS/Prime Video), Five Bedrooms (BBC).. I thought such shows usually had term agreements for the life of the programme?

  3. Was hoping it returning to SBS! But at least it will be available for Aussie audiences. We have to be thankful that we get to see shows even if they are across multiple platforms.

  4. This was the best new show of last year imo. So I’m very excited to see whether Cherry can back it up for S2… I’ve been patiently waiting for an announcement from SBS, but the longer it went on (as its well and truly under away on the U.S.) with no word the more I new it would go to Paramount+
