Rumour: First Dates heading to 10

TV dating show is casting for singles again as it charts a new future.

Dating series First Dates is returning, tipped for a new home.

Warner Bros. Australia is currently casting for singles once again.

“Open to singles of all ages, ethnicity and sexual orientation. Bonus if you have any fun or quirky hobbies / interests!” producers have teased.

The show last appeared on Seven in March 2020 but after 4 seasons was not renewed for 2021.

TV Tonight understands the new version is heading to 10 rather than Seven.

Last year Seven’s Director of Programming Angus Ross said, “It’s very hard to justify that sort of expenditure outside of the 7:30 stripped slot.

First Dates won’t stand up in a 7:30 slot for us, unfortunately. Love the format. It has done a good job, but it won’t stand up against the opposition at 7:30.”

You can email [email protected] to apply …or even “dob in a mate.”

  1. Wow! Now that’s a curveball! I always loved watching First Dates, we found some very interesting people on it! Would love to see it again!

  2. The weird thing about the Australian version was that even if the couples were extremely compatible none of them ever worked out in the long term. I know it is a very artificial environment but the total failure rate always struck me as unusual.

  3. Love this show, the UK version is done very well., it is feel good TV, when the couple click it makes for the feels

If they get the right mix of restaurant staff and make personalities out of them like the gogglebox crew, then this has a chance for Thursday @ 7:30 I reckon.

Manu might make a great Aussie Fred…….?

  4. First Dates re-runs currently air on 7flix, I think on Monday nights, not sure if they’re rating, but it’s consistently in the schedule and when it’s not bumped, must have an audience watching (usually the channel averages just under 2% consistently outside its stronger performing weekends), I’d imagine in the demographics more so.

I’d say there’s definitely audience appetite there, could work reasonably well for 10.

  5. If proven true, in my opinion it is the wrong show for Channel 10 to pinch from 7.

It is wishful thinking I know but I wish that 10 would pinch Big Brother from 7. Maybe the classic Aussie format (live weekly shows and public voting every week) would return as a result.

    1. Yes yes yes! Replace I’m A Celebrity with Big Brother! Plus, 10 would then be just like it’s parent company CBS, with having the rights to the “Big Three” Reality shows: The Amazing Race, Survivor & Big Brother!
