Darren Palmer backs Wear It Purple Day

The Block judge encourages Nine staff to splash a little purple around this Friday.

The Block judge Darren Palmer is promoting Wear It Purple Day this Friday amongst Nine employees (and who can blame him?).

Palmer is an Ambassador for the organisation, founded in 2010 to help foster safe environments for LGBTQI+ young people.

“I think it’s profoundly important that there are voices of support and solidarity so that rainbow young people don’t have to face discrimination and abuse, and instead have access to environments and opportunities to collaborate so they can share the beauty of their diversity,” he said in a video message circulated to Nine staff.

This year’s theme is “Start the conversation… keep it going”, highlights the daily conversations around sexual orientation and gender identity. It aims to remind people that the issues reflected on Wear it Purple Day should not only be considered on that particular day… but every day.

Other Ambassadors include Benjamin Law, Georgie Stone, Jordan Raskopolos, Tom Ballard, Charmaine Bingwa, Patrick Abboud, Zoe Terakes, Anthony Brandon Wong & Harry Cook.

Fun fact: Actor Breanna Harding (Puberty Blues, A Place to Call Home) who once featured in a Play School story with her two mothers, was once President of the advocacy group.
