I’m a Celebrity (UK) returns to Wales as Australia misses out again

Lingering border & quarantine rules lead to the loss of UK reality series for a second year running.

The UK version of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! has ruled out an Australian return for its upcoming season and will instead return to historic Gwrych Castle, Abergele in North Wales.

The show hosted by Ant & Dec, filmed its most recent series at the same site.

Prior to the pandemic all seasons had filmed in Australia, mostly at Dungay near Murwillumbah.

The news will come as a blow to Australian crew who were hoping for the show’s return, but caps on international visitors, 2 weeks quarantine plus local border closures loom large.

Richard Cowles, Director of Unscripted at Lifted Entertainment said: “With the continued uncertainty around COVID and international travel we have taken the decision not to return to our home in Australia for the 2021 series. We’re excited to return to Gwrych Castle. The last series was a huge success and we were made to feel so welcome by everyone locally and can’t wait to see everyone again.”

10 will film its next season in Australia while the German series has also used the Murwillumbah site.

  1. I can’t imagine they will see the need to come back in the future. It’s gotta be cheaper to produce in the UK….. considering the travel bill alone.

    1. I know that’s a bit tongue in cheek, but the last series was a big $$$ earner and ratings hit. It’s second biggest overall apparently. So I’d imagine they were very happy.
