Olympics strong triggers new low for Q+A

Another huge 53% share for Seven. But Q+A sinks against Tokyo competition.

Another night at the Games and another big share for Seven on Thursday….

Olympics in primetime drew 1.42m / 1.09m / 738,000 metro viewers across its three portions.

The Chase led in entertainment at 824,000.

7:30 was 496,000 then The Bachelor (375,000) and Foreign Correspondent (271,000).

But Q+A hit an all-time low of just 188,000, presumably due to Olympics competition, changes in hosts and possibly lockdown fatigue.

Thursday Night NRL was 238,000 across the network.

Seven network was unstoppable at 53.7% then Nine 18.9%, 10 11.9%, ABC 10.5% and SBS 5.0%.

Seven News remains high at 1.32m / 1.21m.

Nine News (1.1m / 976,000) led for Nine then A Current Affair (716,000) and Hot Seat (498,000 / 313,000). In select cities were RBT 206,000, Paramedics (177,000) and King’s Cross ER (102,000). Meanwhile Nine’s Afternoon News drew its highest bulletin of the year at 414,000 as another Melbourne lockdown was announced.

The Project drew 397,000 / 297,000 for 10 then 10 News First (360,000 / 235,000). Law & Order: SVU was just 157,000 / 137,000.

ABC News pulled 666,000.  The Drum was 157,000 and Tall Poppy: A Skater’s Story (112,000).

On SBS it was SBS World News (149,000 / 106,000), Who Do You Think You Are? (131,000), Citizen Jane Fonda (126,000) and The Good Fight (50,000).

  2. Q&A outlived its welcome with too many “dangerous ideas” and radical feminists calling on men to be murdered. The public got tired of it and the ABC should just get rid of it.

  4. Q&A is not affected by olympics..it’s affected by poor tired format, too left leaning..etc

    Go back to more panel desk style format with monitors…

    Trying to be like insiders doesn’t work

  5. The other (much less) notable viewing highlight was the large afternoon Melbourne audiences for Dan Andrews’ media conference: 158k on Nine and 150k on ABC News24.
    Us southerners just wanted to hear the bad news from the horse’s mouth.
