Today‘s Entertainment presenter Brooke Boney is a fan of Loki and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Here’s what else is on her watchlist.

What shows are on your must-see TV list lately?
BB: I watched Loki on Disney+ at the same time as everyone else, and I absolutely loved it and cannot wait for the next season. I’m super, super excited to watch Hacks, which Stan has done very well to get exclusively in Australia. There’s been a lot of buzz around it – I think it’s got something like 15 Emmy nominations so I can’t wait to see it.

How has lockdown affected your viewing?
BB: I think like everyone I’ve been watching A LOT of television, which I don’t mind because it means we’re keeping safe and doing the right thing by staying inside. I think one of the things I’ve learnt to do is maybe have a bit of a stretch or do a little workout while you’re watching TV just to keep the body moving and feel like you’re not going to turn into a potato on the couch!

Which guilty pleasure show are you reluctant to admit watching?
BB: I don’t know if I feel that guilty about watching anything because I think you need some light and shade. It’s great to have some really great quality shows to watch but we all have our old favourites that we go back to and for me it’s like Seinfeld or The Simpsons, or Curb Your Enthusiasm. And I think that’s okay because not everything has to be serious and current. There’s heaps of stuff you can go back and watch on 9Now that’s excellent guilty pleasure viewing.

When you settle down for a night on the couch what are your ‘must-haves?’
BB: I try not to look at my phone when I’m watching telly cause you’ve got the big screen on but looking at the little screen…too many screens. But I do like having some water – super exciting I know – and there’s also this chocolate I discovered that has macadamia nuts in it that’s pretty delicious. But if it’s a weekend, then I’ll go all out and order pizza and just sit there and absolutely binge.

What show you would secretly love to appear on?
BB: That’s a hard one… I don’t know!

How does Entertainment on Today differ from the others and what have been your most / least favourite interviews?
BB: I think entertainment on Today is different from others because the whole presenting and hosting team has got good banter and all of the hosts are engaged in what we’re watching. We all love entertainment news firstly so it’s easy to come to the guys with a new show and say ‘have you seen this’ and I feel like a running gag for most of last year was how much Karl really loved Yellowstone. We ended up getting him a hat because he talked about it so much. It’s always good to do an interview that you really love and that you’re proud of and come back and play it to the guys and put it on the telly and have them react in the same way I felt about the interview. That’s always heart-warming. My most favourite interview? It’s so hard because I feel so lucky to connect to so many incredible people and I don’t mean just, big famous movie stars or musicians, but people who are really thoughtful and really generous about how they make movies or make television shows and music. When you have people like Denzel Washington give you life advice over a Zoom call, that’s a real pinch yourself moment. And as for the least favourite ones, you never walk away from an interview feeling that particular person was my least favourite because though some of the people I interview are huge celebrities, they’re also just people so they could have stuff going on in their life or whatever that means they’re grumpy or tired. And I’m really aware that those press junkets sometimes go for 12 – 15 hours and if I’m the last interview that’s standing between someone and their lunch I can totally understand why they might be a little bit terse.

Today airs 5:30am weekdays on Nine.

  1. Was it just me or did the Stan & 9Now mentions seem ‘out of place’ in that they seem like something you would find in a press release rather than something someone would say naturally?

I’m a big fan of Brooke so I’m not criticizing her. Just noting how odd the cross-promotional mentions were
