The 2021 ARIA Awards is proceeding but will be seen on YouTube this year.
The Herald Sun reports uncertainty around border closures or being able to have an in-person event on November 25 in Sydney has forced the ARIA board to move the event online.
For the first time the Best Female and Male Artists will be merged into one Best Artist category of 10 nominees.
ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd said “the time for separating artists based on gendered categories that exclude non-binary artists altogether has passed.”
“There are artists, including artists who have charted at No. 1 in the past year, who don’t identify as male or female.
“We wanted to put everyone on equal footing for an award, as they should be.”
Nominations will be revealed on YouTube next month.
Last year’s stripped back event screened on Nine and YouTube.

Interesting pivot…maybe The Logies need to try something innovative as well
