Auditions: RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under

RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under has been renewed for a second season.

Stan announced that a second season will return in 2022, with host RuPaul returning (no other cast are yet confirmed).

RuPaul, said: “I am thrilled to produce and host a brand new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under. We’ve only just begun to shine a worldwide spotlight on the charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent of Australasian queens.”

Cailah Scobie, Stan Chief Content Officer, said “Aussie fans loved the Stan Original Series RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under and demanded a second season. As the most awarded reality competition show in TV history, the decision was an easy one, and we can’t wait to see the incredible talent that the show will unveil after the high bar set by season one.”

Casting is now open, closing October 5th at www.rdrcasting.com.

Stan Original Series RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under is a World of Wonder production in collaboration with Warner Bros. International Production New Zealand for Stan and TVNZ. Randy Barbato, Fenton Bailey, Tom Campbell and RuPaul Charles serve as Executive Producers. Passion Distribution will distribute the series globally in line with Passion Distribution and WOW’s distribution strategy.

  1. Pretty unexcited about a second season if it’s going to be as weak as the first was. A shame that Ru will be hosting again unless he and Michelle can stop complaining that they don’t understand many of the Aus/NZ cultural references and accept that they are not watching US drag. It would have worked better with a local host – perhaps Courtney Act could step in? The Thai or Spanish model would have worked better for Australia. Another problem was the producers trying to ramp up drama amongst the contestants that simply wasn’t there. That and the lack of guest judges and taped zoom appearances. Other Drag Race franchises have somehow made the show work better in COVID restrictions.

  2. @Craigj77 : Cheap and nasty is right…as well as embarrassing. So much talent squandered, so many questionable production and editing choices. The only way to correct the course of this fabulous ship is to ditch International Production For New Zealand as a production company and get 10/Shine Endemol on board. They know how to do slick Aussie versions of franchises we can be proud of!
