Axed: Amazing Grace

2021 drama with Kate Jenkinson & Sigrid Thornton ends at one season.

Nine yesterday confirmed Amazing Grace would not be returning for a second season.

The Playmaker Media drama starring Kate Jenkinson, Sigrid Thornton & Alex Dimitriades, centered around a midwife working at a birthing centre whose previously-adopted daughter turns up as a patient.

A Nine spokesperson told TV Tonight, “Amazing Grace performed strongly for Channel 9 but we have made the decision that it won’t return next year, our sincere thanks to the extremely talented cast and crew who delivered a show that we are very proud of.

“Today we announced two new Australian dramas, Underbelly: Vanishing Act and After The Verdict that will commence production later this year, continuing our commitment to invest in Australian drama”.

This marks the third recent drama to have one season on Nine, following Seachange and Halifax: Retribution (Nine is yet to formally axe either).

Nine also has a number of new dramas commissioned through Stan.

  1. Another free to air drama bites the dust. Reality tv continues to kill any form of creativity on free to air tv. The glory days of fabulous Australian dramas is well and truly over.

  2. I am not surprised. Of all the Aussie dramas I have watched this was not the best. Despite having a good cast it just didn’t explore character arcs as successfully as other dramas. To be honest eight episodes for a series does limit the ability to do that when there is a big cast.
