Neighbours gets new UK timeslot

Only a minor time change, but it's the first in 13 years for Aussie soap.

Neighbours is getting a new timeslot in the UK as Channel 5 -its first change in 13 years.

It currently screens twice-daily at 1.45pm every weekday, with a repeat screening at 5.30pm.

With a one hour news coming to 5pm, the repeat will move to 6pm in coming weeks.

A Channel 5 spokesperson told Digital Spy: “As Channel 5 continues to attract larger audiences, its news output is an ever more crucial part of the offering it creates for viewers.

“Following Ofcom’s approval of Channel 5’s 5pm News Bulletin expansion, Neighbours will find a new home on Channel 5 in the evenings at 6pm.

“The weekday 1.45pm showing remains unchanged, so viewers will still be able to watch their favourite Neighbours twice a day and catch up on My5.”

In Australia the show recently pulled back to 4 nights a week, Monday – Thursday on 10 Peach, with sources indicating it was to bring episodes in line with British broadcasts.

        1. C5 pretty much stopped showing Home and Away any love once they picked up the Neighbours rights. It will continue on their digital channel 5Star, which premieres episodes at 6.30pm – but only in SD.

Neighbours historically has the higher profile due to being such a big ratings hit for the BBC in it’s early years. Home and Away did attract decent ratings too but it’s airtime varied regionally, then got pushed to 5pm when ITV moved the news before moving to C5, with a year off air before the transfer. It rated well for them but never as highly as when on ITV.

          1. Home and Away started as a lovely family show…foster family in a beach side caravan park…It has over time, morphed into a beautiful bodies soap opera…😞
