Renewed: Virgin River, My Unorthodox Life. Axed: Hit & Run

Two more seasons for romantic drama, but a big budget international production ends at one.

A number of shows at Netflix are in the news with renewals.

Romantic drama Virgin River has been renewed for a fourth and fifth season.

The series is based on Robyn Carr’s book series of the same name and follows Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), working as a midwife and nurse practitioner in a remote Northern California town  where she meets local bartender Jack Sheridan (NZ actor Martin Henderson). The cast also includes Colin Lawrence, Jenny Cooper, Lauren Hammersley, Annette O’Toole, Tim Matheson, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Grayson Gurnsey, Sarah Dugdale, Zibby Allen and Marco Grazzini.

Unscripted series My Unorthodox Life is getting a second season.

The show stars fashion executive Julia Haart, who left the ultra-Orthodox community in which she was raised to conquer the modern world. The series follows her and her four children as they navigate life since leaving their extreme religious Jewish community.

Season 2 will feature more “fashion, family, female empowerment, faith, fabulousness, and of course, Haart,” according to Netflix.

Meanwhile espionage thriller Hit & Run is ending at one season despite ending with a cliffhanger. The series followed Segev (Lior Raz) investigating the hit-and-run death of his wife, Danielle (Kaelen Ohm). Filmed both in the United States and in Israel it was a big budget production hit with pandemic delays.

    1. If you like spy dramas Hit and Run is worth a look, the show has obviously been made with an American audience in mind and Israeli actor Lior Raz did have an interesting past history in the Israeli counter-terrorism unit Sayeret Duvdevan before he became a writer and actor. As a writer, hopefully Lior will be offering more screenplays to Netflix in the future.

      1. Yeah I was excited to watch it, but the nasty fact of the matter is that it ends on a cliff hanger with no chance of a resolution… so I’ll leave it be. Consider it my loss.

  1. I’m a bit disappointed about Netflix cancelling Hit and Run, it was one of their better shows shown this year, as far as I could tell it didn’t do too badly being in the Top 10 but probably the ‘ratings’ in the USA and Europe disappointed, Hit and Run needed at least one more season to finish the story. On the other hand Virgin River could fit in anywhere, it’s something NBC or CBS would be making several seasons of too, so maybe Netflix is following suit for its own American audience, though I’m sure some Australian’s like it too.
