Returning: China Tonight

Stan Grant & Yvonne Yong given the old Q+A Monday slot for a new season looking at China.

ABC appears to have finally settled on a Monday night replacement for the former Q+A slot (so far it’s been a rotation of ideas).

From next week Stan Grant and Yvonne Yong will front a new season of China Tonight -which previously screened on ABC News.

This season will bring stories of China’s rise in the world, and the changes and challenges at home – disability rights, Chinese medicine, and the phenomenon of school tutoring!

On Monday, comedian and presenter Annie Louey looks at the new ‘lying down’ movement – bucking the workaholic approach of the past; writer Jinghua Qian reports on the suppression of LGBTQI activists in China, and we look at China’s relationship with Afghanistan, after the exit of the US and allied forces and return of the Taliban. Plus, what’s making the news and what’s trending on Weibo.

Understand China beyond the headline trade wars and global posturing.

9:30pm Mondays on ABC from September 13 (replays Tuesdays at 8pm on ABC News).

Outside Australia on ABC Australia and ABC Australia iview on Mondays at 7pm in Delhi, 8.30pm in Hanoi, 9.30pm in Hong-Kong and Kuala Lumpur and 11.30pm in PNG).
