American Song Contest, a slice of Eurovision, set for February.

State vs. state song contest is set to take place in February 2022.

Eurovision‘s official foray into the USA now has a date.

The American Song Contest, a localised adaptation of the long running contest, will premiere on Monday 21 February, 2022, in a two-hour primetime extravaganza on NBC.

The Contest will feature original musical performances representing all 50 states, plus American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and Washington, D.C. to win the title of Best Original Song. (here is the entry info).

A solo artist, duo or a band will represent each location and perform a new original song, that celebrates the different styles and genres found across America.

The live competition consists of three Qualifying Rounds, followed by the Semi Finals and the ultimate Grand Final where one state or territory will emerge victorious.

An attempt at a US version has been a long time in the the making. A state vs state contest was previously flagged in 2017 and as far back as 2008.

As readers also recall Eurovision Asia Song Contest was due to be staged by SBS in 2017.

No word if SBS or another broadcaster will screen the US series.

  1. I just can’t see this working in America but we’ll see.

Any news on international airings – will it be through the EBU’s existing Eurovision partners or do NBC retain the rights, so perhaps it’ll air through Peacock where that is available.
