Mitch said: “We never had expectations or even hopes for that amount. This changes our lives as we’ve got a mortgage that we can’t jump over, but with this prize we can take a great leap at it now.”

Mark said: “I think we’re in shock as we stuck to our guns about what we thought a family home was about and it was a big risk.”

It was a marathon episode in which the photo ‘cheating scandal’ was revisited with Tanya admitting she took the photo when she stepped inside the unit production base during filming of the promo. But Josh was also complicit in the deed having kept her secret so that his neighbour agreed to access for the pool etc. Eventually he fessed up, effectively outing Tanya’s secret.

There was also an upset over the Reserve prices with even Scott Cam conceding they were too high. $100,000 was later knocked off the price at the host’s behest. When the bidding went high, Cam added, “I’m going to get in so much trouble from the network.”

Contstants took home a total of $2,271,968.12 in prizemoney however,  Ronnie and Georgia were left in fifth place, after putting themselves first in the auction order.

As the auction prices went north, Ronnie appeared to walk off, presumably upset at the outcome, before returning for a group toast.

Melbourne philanthropist Danny Wallis, adding to his Block property portfolio, purchased three houses on auction day, including Mitch and Mark’s, Tanya and Vito’s, and Kirsty and Jesse’s, for a cool $12.2 million.

Wallis said he planned to donate Tanya and Vito’s home to My Room Children’s Cancer Charity: “There’s always demand for accommodation for families with kids with cancer. I bought Daniel and Jade’s Block house last year and it’s always in use. Now I’ve bought another one for My Room to help support these kids.”

Nine also teased its 2022 shows with a “Still the One” reel, including the next Block season in the Macedon Ranges, with host Scott Cam renovating a first-time ever home alongside contestants. Yup.

  1. If Scotty Camm will be renovating a house along with the contestants – that’s something I’ll watch next season. I still think the judges need a full makeover – such pompus and too cool for school attitude, plus inconsistent scoring.

  2. Regarding the time over run my wife had our foxtel to the normal 10min over run time plus and extra 30min allowed by the box and still missed the ending.Who would have thought she should have recorded the following programme to get all the block.Does channel 9 give foxtel the programme schedule ?

  3. David, why did you feel the need to report that “gay” Grandparents won? Aren’t they just “people”. You don’t report about “straight” people in other shows. Sloppy reporting, esp from you.

    1. TVT started in the gay media and visibility for minorities is important. You will often see a description in these kinds of wraps such as “NSW prop maker won Making It” or “Disability support worker and basketballer Marley Biyendolo has won the title of Big Brother 2021” but thanks for feedback.

      1. I’m a gay 55 yo gay man and have been very involved in community politics before “woke” was a thing and I’m by no means far left. However, until we stop needing to “other “ ourselves, we can’t expect to be accepted. I know David’s history and anyone who watched the show knew that the boys were gay. We’re past the point of having to deal with being the exception.

Oh and yes, I agree, let’s give them a float at Mardi Gras.

        1. Disagree. I look forward to the day we don’t need a Mardi Gras because we have equality and acceptance everywhere. I actually started TVT because there was so much queer television starting to be visible everywhere and The Block was one of those. But I would argue we are not there yet. What you experience as a 55 yo man active in the community I’d suggest differs markedly to what a 16yo feels growing up isolated in a regional community. The show had to make an active call-out for diverse contestants through my blog, adding that if you cant’t see it, you can’t be it. We just saw a soccer player come out to much enthusiasm, and it’s taken to 2021 to get there. AFL still has not done the same. I’m not convinced we have full equality in sport, immigration, superannuation, health, employment, religion, family rights, education, funerals, advertising etc. One show will not and should not be expected to address them all, nor should one blog. I’m doing my bit.

    2. This is David Knox’s personal blog….his house…we are invited guests…he is perfectly entitled to say whatever he pleases….I am here as I enjoy his writing skills…read what I like…leave what I do not …

  4. Arhhhh money, the root of all evil ! I couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for Tanya. Her lies were extremely embarrassing to watch unfold. I found the rich guy really annoying even though what he does with the houses is wonderful. Just stupid with the dollars and cents bids. Would he be able to do that at an ordinary auction? I don’t think so. It would’ve been a whole different outcome if he wasn’t there buying up big.

    1. I just don’t get why the regulator hasn’t put a stop to this nonsense. A short overrun for live shows is to be expected but a lengthy one for prerecorded shows is just ridiculous, as is amending the EPG late in the day to reflect that. It doesn’t happen in most other countries where there are strict rules, with the US I think being amongst the strictest for ensuring shows start and finish on time. Here in the UK shows have a six minute window and can start up to 2 minutes early or 4 minutes late.

There is an easy way to fix it – ban any adverts between the end of the scheduled time and the actual end of the show. That would certainly put a stop to 59 minute overruns.

          1. Same in regional NSW. Program titles 60 Minutes and Late News popped up on-screen at the EPG times, just reminding us how late The Block was running.

  5. Have to laugh at Tanya going to the effort to make fake screen shots of text messages to only get her own story wrong about the date it was sent, then for Kirsty to pull her up on the fact they weren’t even in production at the time!

R&G I feel shot themselves in the foot with the auction order (All advice from estate agent. Ouch). IMO I think them and K&J should of been placed within the middle. Did notice Ronnie went missing for quite a while during others auctions, especially when they saw M&M results in the spot they were meant to go (ouch again).. and then to be quite emotional at the end. Understandably disappointing for them, but still make just shy of £300k… not bad for three mo the work!

    1. Especially when he has admitted previously to not even inspecting the houses. So he is buying them purely for being a Block house, he’s not specifically buying the ones he actually likes.
