Updated: Season 5 of UK mystery Shetland begins this Thursday on BBC First.
Starring Douglas Henshall & Alison O’Donnell, this is a 6 part series which has previously screened on ABC.
A human hand washes up on a Shetland beach. A few hours later, more body parts are discovered in a hold-all that has been dumped at sea. The victim is identified as a young Nigerian man, spotted in Lerwick a few days before. What was he doing on the islands?
In investigating his murder, DI Perez becomes involved in the search for a vulnerable young woman, leading him to uncover a complex network of human trafficking across Scotland’s remote rural communities.
Thursdays at 8.30pm from November 18 on BBC First.

My guide is showing it as the actual season 6…
S6, Ep1. Episode 1: When a prominent and controversial Shetlander is shot dead on their doorstep in broad daylight, Perez rushes back from his mother’s funeral to lead the investigation.
I’ve passed on.
I’ve now sorted synopsis confusion with BBC First who advise this is S5 (but S6 for BBC First due to distribution).
Yep. Perez must return from dealing with family matters, on Fair Isle when a controversial local is shot on his doorstep. The investigation points to a connection to organised crime (for a close knit rural community of 20,000 people, Shetland seems to be doing pretty well in the organised crime stakes).
As far as I know series 6 starts off with the murder of a local man. The series synopis as above looks like the stuff for series 5 which has just finished on ABC TV.
You are correct, that is series 5 described above. And as I wrote in the TV Lounge section on this site on Sunday, series 6 (according to BBC First) starts Thursday at 7.30pm in Queensland. (may be it is 8.30 in the southern states).
Explanation is in comments above. I published what BBC First advised.
