Screen Actors Guild Awards returning to live, in-person event.

Another awards show charts a full return in 2022.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards is returning to a live, in-person event in February, after a virtual event in 2021.

It will move from Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium to Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar, located next to Santa Monica Airport – previously a venue for the People’s Choice Awards, Critics Choice Awards and MTV Movie Awards.

SAG Awards executive producer Jon Brockett, the decision to decamp for Santa Monica was a way to shake things up.

“We chose Barker Hangar because it’s a blank canvas,” he told Variety. “We can create anything we want in this vast space that could accommodate all our needs including our carpet, showroom and post-awards gala.”

“There is a ton of opportunity in this space since there is no existing architecture or design to compete with,” Brockett says. “We’re taking full advantage of that and going with a more top to tail, all-encompassing and experiential feel for the guests, which we are really excited to reveal in the coming months.”

UK actor Helen Mirren was recently announced to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award on February 27 (US date).
