Star Trek: Discovery moving to Paramount+

A new frontier for sci-fi series in 2022 means a delay for Aussie fans.

Star Trek: Discovery is flying to a new home in 2022 at Paramount+.

Media reports cite a deal signed between ViacomCBS and Netflix will see the title move homes next year, after three seasons on Netflix.

The sci-fi screened on CBS All Access stateside and Netflix across most of the rest of the world, but that deal has now been superseded.

It will also follow to Paramount+ in Australia.

“As we rapidly expand our global streaming footprint, we are bringing more of our top titles home to ViacomCBS for Paramount+ markets around the world,” ViacomCBS Networks International streaming boss Kelly Day said. “We have a strong global and local content pipeline that positions us for success across our regions, and repatriating beloved series like Star Trek: Discovery for Paramount+ is another step forward as we bring fans more must-watch series worldwide.”

The news also means S4, which premieres in the US this week, is delayed in Australia.

  1. Might be time to jump off this series, it’s been a while so I can’t totally recall what happened at the end of the series 3, certainly not going too start playing chase this series/that series across services now, used to bad enough chasing shows across schedules as their time changed now across streaming services too!

  2. Isn’t it ironic? Paramount finally have the streaming rights to one of their biggest franchises back in their hands… But they can’t show it till months after it airs in the states and the quality of the Paramount+ stream will be a bit starved mess in comparison to Netflix’s Dolby Vision presentation. Great deal!

  3. The amount of streaming services I have to subscribe to now, just to watch shows that I’ve liked/like is getting beyond ridiculous now.

Want to see this movie – Subscribe to Netflix, want to see that one subscribe to Amazon Prime. This TV show subscribe to Paramount +, oh you want to watch this other one subscribe to MGM, Shudder, AcrornTV etc.

🙁 When will this insanity end. Just give me a streaming service, where I can watch everything (except their exclusives) in one place.
Never thought I would say this…. But I miss my local video store. At least they had everything I could ever need to watch.

  4. I made a post on tvtonight the other day that netflix did not have the new season as upcoming. Netflix have now removed the entire show from their platform.

  5. Interesting business decision by Netflix, but ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ has polarized some dedicated sci-fi fans about what the show was attempting to do, as far as the Star Trek universe is concerned, most just wanted some old fashioned story telling without the input of a few producers wanting to be more inclusive, thus we have a new change of course with ‘Star Trek; Strange New Worlds’, which if my reading is true will be faithful to Gene Roddenberry’s original vision with a few familiar Star Trek themes making a return. For the sake of this classic show I hope it will be so.
