Renewed: Fear the Walking Dead

US zombie gets an eighth season with former star Kim Dickens set to return.

US zombie series Fear the Walking Dead has been renewed for an eighth season.

Former star Kim Dickens is also set to return in the second half of the season which debuts in April. She will then appear as a series regular in Season 8.

Dickens starred as Madison Clark in the series from Season 1-Season 4, with her character appearing to die by sacrificing herself in an explosion.

“If there were a Mt. Deadmore, Kim Dickens’ face would be on it,” said Scott M. Gimple, chief content officer of The Walking Dead universe. “Madison Clark is a foundational character to TWDU — heroic, complex, an everyperson who becomes a warrior and then a force of benevolence. Kim Dickens’ raw talent, strength, and brilliance will electrify TWDU once more and we couldn’t be luckier to have her back.”

Fear the Walking Dead screens in Australia on FOX Showcase.

  1. She is a great actress, but seriously. The plot for S7 was set up to focus on Alycia Debnam-Carey who has so far only appeared in only 1 and a bit episodes and appears to be being written out (though apparently they could just reincarnate Alicia later anyway). Madison has been lauded for a couple of seasons as a hero who sacrificed herself to save the rest. After she was killed in an explosion she has now survived a nuclear attack with multiple weapons that killed most of the people in the SW US, and contaminated the whole area with lethal fallout. AMC really needs to stop dragging things out for a few bucks and just let them die.

  2. I haven’t watched a single episode since her “death” off-screen scene. It’s very much sexism and ageism. It’s rare for a mature female character to lead in a zombies/post-apocalypse series. And to replaced with a man from the original series. It’s not cool.

I heard the quality dropped down since then. It desperately needs Madison. Sounds like they killed her off was a big mistake.

  3. Ugh S7 has been close to atrocious. Can Madison return and save this show? Because when she was a series regular, that’s when it was great. I will never understand why the writers and/or showrunner sideline Alicia for large parts of the show every season… she’s by far the best character and she doesn’t get any screen time. Tbh that’s the least of this show’s worries though… it’s nonsensical, farcical and just plain boring (Strand built a community like he has now in a mere few months?). There hasn’t been a show in recent memory that has fallen so far from where it begun in terms of quality, and it was never exceptional anyway. I can’t even. It’s a shame I’m such a huge TWD universe fan so unfortunately I need to ride it out.
Can’t wait to see Madison again though so there is optimism to my whinging.
