Report: SKY News apology follows Human Rights Commission complaint

If complaint had not been resolved, action could have been taken in the federal court.

Peta Credlin’s apology to the South Sudanese community was a condition of a resolution to a human rights commission complaint against her, according to media reports.

The SKY News apology made on Friday night followed a complaint made a complaint to the Australian Human Rights Commission on 3 November 2020, Guardian Australia reports.

The conditions of the resolution include that parent company Australian News Channel and Credlin agreed to broadcast the apology and two further segments on the South Sudanese community. Credlin said in her apology that they would be “positive” news stories about the community.

A lawyer for the complainants, Charles Reichman, confirmed if the complaint had not been resolved, action could have been taken in the federal court.

He noted the complaint had been resolved.

The Human Rights Commission declined to comment.
