I’m a Celebrity twists with fake star

This year one cast member really is a complete unknown...

Most years viewers accuse reality shows of not including genuine celebrities in their casts.

This year I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here decided to do it for real, with one fake star included as part of a series twist.

The first 10 cast members are:

Poh Ling Yeow. She is a MasterChef Australia alumni favourite who certainly knows her way around the kitchen, but it’s what she can do with rice and beans that will really put her to the test.

Dylan Lewis. You may know Dylan from the iconic 90s music show Recovery, or his stellar radio work over the years, or for being an extra in Star Wars, scene 11, Dex’s Diner.

Beau Ryan. He is a TV host, slash sports star, slash singer, slash comedian. A prankster with boundless energy, Beau is the larrikin Australia loves to laugh along with, but mostly, at.

Maria Thattil. She was crowned Miss Universe Australia 2020 and is out to prove she is more than just a pretty face.

Nathan Buckley. Spanning a 280 game playing career, Nathan is one of AFL’s most decorated players. Recently, he spent a decade as the respected coach of Collingwood. Even more recently, he has entered the Australian jungle as a celebrity campmate.

Brooke McClymont. She is one third of the top-selling, award-winning Australian country music trio, The McClymonts. This year, Brooke is one tenth of the top-smelling, trial-winning Australian bush band, The Celebrities.

Emily Seebohm. Four time Olympian, Emily has won an incredible 56 medals on the world stage, making her one of Australia’s most celebrated swimmers. She debuted for the Australian team at the age of 14, and at the age of 29 she is making her jungle debut.

Derek Kickett. He is a former AFL superstar whose thirst for the ball often made him oblivious to danger which probably explains why he signed up for this.

Cal Wilson. This funny lady, ventured across the Tasman in 2003 and has gone on to be a favourite guest on Have You Been Paying Attention? and Hughesy, We Have a Problem, as well as the queen of the comedy circuit. But will she have the last laugh?

The David. A super influencer with 3.9 million followers, The David, as he is known by his fans, is a renowned shoe designer. He is the creative force behind the 8 Inch Daves, a pair of sky-high heels made famous by Miley Cyrus after she was spotted wearing them during her set in Glastonbury. Trust us (or don’t) when we say he is uber famous.

In a mystery celebrity twist Poh was tasked with a secret mission….

Fellow cast member The David, is not actually a celebrity (real name David Subritzky), but Poh must convince the others he is a world famous shoe designer with an outrageous social media following.

For every day they keep the lie going, they will win a reward for the entire camp.

International Reality TV Star Joey Essex, from UK’d The Only Way Is Essex joins the show tonight.

  1. Good to see Dylan Lewis back on tv again through this. I always wondered why he fell away from that, and just seemed to go to radio.

He also won Celebrity Big Brother back when channel 10 had that which I’m somewhat surprised they didn’t mention.

  2. i really like Poh but personally i feel like its a rather boring lineup with no big international celebs in there either. My favorite was of course Maureen McCormack from the Brady Bunch.

And it looks very much like the last few years, same uniforms, same camp setup, maybe the same sort of challenges. So i won’t be watching, i feel relieved actually, now i can watch something else rather than 6 hours of reality tv a week.

  3. I’ve picked on this show in the past for it’s casting, particularly when they fill it with ex-reality contestants, so I was pleasantly surprised to see the line up this year… so far. I knew of all of them bar one, plus the fake celebrity of course. This would have to be the most interesting cast so far for me. It has a good mix of personalities which could make for some interesting interactions. Well done 10 for your casting this season.

    1. I think it’s quite novel. Last night when they were discussing being papped and The David described a shot of him and Lindsay Lohan when he fell down the stairs was very good, as was Cal
Wilson saying “yeah I remember that”.

    2. Celebrity Big Brother in the UK did this in 2005, but the housemate (Chantelle Houghton) actually managed to create a bit of a career for herself in the UK after.

  4. It’s a great cast, though unfortunately the gross factor is off-putting. I may have liked Who Dares Wins or Fear Factor in the past but this type of show is not for me anymore. Though there are a lot of fans of the jungle adventures.

  5. I could be wrong but this was being shot when there was restrictions on Australians coming back into the country and Channel 10 imports in Joey Essex who was put up on hotel quarantine. That room could have been used for a australian who hadnt seen their parents in years….. It does not sit right…

    1. That can literally be said about any production that kept the Australian tv/film industry going in 2021. Fact is their entry provided jobs and was beneficial to the economy. In some instances quarantine was privately funded and entry happened outside passenger caps.
It may “not sit right” with you but thats the way the world works.

    2. C’mon, aren’t we all getting tired of this (and this is not an attack on you) but surely after two years of this we all know that these imports are above board. we know that they apply for exemptions through the government and therefore these people are above and beyond the current (or then existing) caps. I understand it might not sit right or it’s frustrating or just stupid to have someone from overseas on an Aussie show, but this line of scrutiny has been done to death. Either enjoy the show for what it is, or don’t.

Do we even know if he was already here, or if he was brought in just for the show?

    1. No, never. Might be getting him confused for the segments he did for Chris and Julia through the show they did for a bit called Sunday Night Takeaway?

    2. He’s Channel 10’s last resort, he appears at least once on all their shows bar MasterChef. He gives me the same vibe that Manu did at Channel 7, they have him on contract and wheel him out whenever they need to fill a cast.
