Hey Hey specials may include new Red Faces acts

More than one nostalgic special for Seven coming -and possibly with new acts.

Seven is mulling several Hey Hey It’s Saturday specials later this year, and is even considering incorporating new Red Faces acts.

Seven Head of Scheduling Brook Hall told TV Tonight, “We’re doing a couple of Hey Hey specials so we’ll probably look some different variations of it. Maybe a Red Faces special, and might even thrown some newbies in that. And then maybe one other special.

“For Red Faces it wouldn’t be hard to do something new. But we’re not going to be doing a live Hey Hey it’s Saturday episode. It’s just looking at different ways to tap into stuff that we didn’t get time to do.”

The 50th special was shot when Melbourne went into Stage 4 lockdown last year.

“COVID really limited it,” he continues. “Right when they went into getting people it was hard getting some of the cast in there. So we think that there’s still small bites we can get out of this… assuming that COVID doesn’t wreck things. There are a lot of other things they couldn’t do, that were originally lined up.”

The special nevertheless proved a huge hit for Seven, drawing 2.012m viewers (including Timeshifted, BVOD + Regional viewers).

Daryl Somers will first be seen co-hosting Dancing with the Stars: All Stars later this month.

    1. TV history should be celebrated as it was for the 50th. It is sounding like 2 specials, although we’ve had Red Faces specials before. Betty White gets celebrated for (almost) making it to 100. Ernie Carroll will be 93 this year, he is definitely worth celebrating while he is here. Ultimately TV is a democracy, the question is will the audience be back in droves for more…?

  1. Please no. What was good 30 years ago – is very different now. Between The Voice, AGT, Aus Idol and now ‘new’ Red Faces – possibly over saturating the talent show market?

    1. Seven make me laugh. So much in up fronts. But they still want to bring back specials of Hey Hey.
Maybe they think some of there shows will bomb.Like SAS Australia!!!!!
