Veteran UK actor Anna Karen, best known for On the Buses and EastEnders, has died aged 85.
She tragically perished in a house fire in Ilford on Tuesday night.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson confirmed: “Sadly, a woman has died following a house fire on Windsor Road in Ilford.
“Part of the ground floor of a mid-terrace house was damaged by fire. Sadly a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The Brigade was called at 22:40 and the fire was under control by 23:38. Three fire engines and around 20 firefighters from Ilford and Barking fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
Anna Karen made her name playing Olive in the hit comedy On The Buses from 1969–1973. The show was also a huge success in Australia. She reprised the role of Olive in The Rag Trade in the late 1970s and had roles in two Carry On films: Carry On Camping and Carry On Loving.
She also starred in EastEnders as Aunt Sal the no-nonsense sister of Peggy Mitchell, played by the late Barbara Windsor, in a recurring role from 1996 – 2017 and enjoyed roles in several pantomimes across the UK.

Damn… That’s a tragic end.
RIP, Anna.
Omg! I truly thought she had already passed. But omg I’ve just been shocked by 3 deaths in a row, her, Sally Kellerman and Amazing Jonathan. All very shockingly sad and thanks TV Tonight the only time I get to hear about celebrity deaths seems to be from you.
So sorry …only knew her from On The Buses…loved the show….
What an awful way to go at her age.
She was brilliant on Eastenders, a real scene stealer, you could always tell what great chemistry she had with Babs Windsor.
I was always hoping she would one more stint on Eastenders. May she rest

Horrible way to go but a hell of a career !!
Sad way to pass away..RIP
Nothing to be offended by period comedy as it was of it’s time…if people are offended then they can not watch it…the remote control is the most powerful device to prevent offence to softies
