10 Peach doubles up on Neighbours episodes in time for finale

Network 10 will screen double episodes from June so that Aussie fans are not spoiled by episodes screening in the UK.

EXCLUSIVE:

Neighbours fans will be relieved to know that the last ever episode will screen in Australia in sync with Britain.

From Monday June 13, double episodes will screen on 10 Peach, addressing a recent lag which has affected episodes in Australia.

A Network 10 spokesperson told TV Tonight, “From Monday June 13, friends of Ramsay St can tune into double the fun, double the action with double episodes to celebrate the final season of Neighbours.

“The ultimate series finale will air on Monday August 1.”

This avoids fans learning of storyline spoilers for the final 6 weeks of the show.

Australian fans and TV critics had previously urged 10 to address the irregularity after it became clear the show would not continue beyond mid year.

This week 10 vice president and chief content officer Beverley McGarvey lamented the show’s fate after producers Fremantle were unable to secure a new British broadcaster.

“We would love to be able to keep doing it. But unfortunately, unless they find international partners, it’s not possible for us to continue, “she said.

  1. I think they should have the Finale on a Friday rather than Monday. To have the finale on friday means that it doesn’t want to clash with Home & away.

  2. I’m happy about this. But, so sad they couldn’t find another interested party to continue the show. I honestly thought there might be a last minute reprieve of some sort.

  3. August 1st will be a really sad day for TV. 😭 Double episodes great news though not good clashing with Home and Away which I’ve been following since the gas attack storyline. 10Peach having Friends so much has made me sick of the theme song which I used to like.

  4. I reckon they should start doubling up ASAP so that they can continue doubling up even after they’ve caught up by playing a classic episode at 7.00pm, preferably one that pertains to cast members that have since returned to the show (e.g. introductions of classic characters such as Melanie Pearson, Amy Greenwood, Clive Gibbons, Jane Harris, Glen Donnelly, and any respective/noteworthy weddings/cliffhangers/departures etc.), perhaps with a brief introduction by the relevant cast member(s).

Also worth considering is that they’re running the risk of losing eyeballs to Home & Away at 7pm, in which case, the series will well and truly end on a whimper on its home turf, but airing the show at 6pm doesn’t seem like a better alternative either.

Either way, 10 might as well repeat the double episodes at 9.30pm(ish) weeknights considering that they have bugger-all else on anyway, and this will at least give local viewers a chance to see the episodes in HD.

    1. It’s likely to be the 6pm-7pm block with no closing credits on the first ep, straight lead-in. Re classic eps, if that were to eventuate, it would never be in primetime, or linear broadcast for that matter.

  5. While it’s great news that we’ll finally catch up (I was planning to catch up via My5), 8 episodes a week is too much. Just get it back to Friday nights immediately and do two weeks of 10 episodes then back to 5 nights a week of single episodes. This makes much more sense, I have no idea what 10 programmers are thinking.

  6. August 1 – a sad day on Australian television.

Its good to have double episodes of Neighbours from June to be in sync of the UK for the final. Would Friday episodes be bought in too?
