Million Dollar Island for Seven in 2023

Is this Dutch format the answer for Seven to finally take on MAFS?

Seven sources have confirmed the rights to new adventure reality series Million Dollar Island, set to screen in 2023.

The Dutch format which screens on Prime Video sees 100 contestants on a remote desert island for up to 50 days competing to win their share of a cash prize.

Described as “Survivor versus Squid Game“, both NBC and Britain’s E4 are set to screen adaptations of the Talpa and Studio Lambert series.

Upon arrival each contestant is given a bracelet worth $10,000. During their time on the island, contestants gain and lose bracelets through various challenges, but when a player leaves the island, they must choose who will receive their portion of the money.

Seven are set to shoot later this year.

Talpa has previously partnered with Eureka Productions on Holey Moley in Australia. Fingers crossed it’s an improvement on 2014’s ambitious Big Adventure, when $1m was awarded on an island but only 649,000 viewers turned up.

Meanwhile as previously hinted, Seven has been forced to push Australian Idol from 2022 to 2023 due to its desire for a big scale Live show, potentially to take on Nine’s unassailable Married at First Sight.

Idol was originally due to return in 2021.

  1. Good on them for trying something new I guess, at least it is a new concept and not a revival of My Restaurant Rules or a lame spin off of a spin off like Apartment Rules. Given the success of MAFS I have wondered about why Seven have resisted one revival, Temptation Island. Seems like it’d do great business for them on 7plus/two even if not on main channel and be cheap to make.

  2. This show sounds awesome! It’s one for me for sure!

I agree with you David, it does sound a lot like The Big Adventure! Mind you, I quite liked that show, it’s just that no-one else did…
