MKR: No mean characters, foodies sharing their love, in real kitchens.

Manu Feildel has teased My Kitchen Rules going back to basics when it returns later this year.

The revamped My Kitchen Rules is set to screen on Seven later this year, tossing out its recipe book which saw later seasons upstaged by contestant drama.

Manu Feildel said, “For over 10 years it was Australia’s favourite show. Now, I’m back, and I’m bringing MKR back to basics. Back to event family viewing.

“It will be the original MKR we all loved. No drama amongst teams. No mean characters. Just real food, real people and real homes.

“Real food, impressive dishes, showcasing loved recipes. Real people, likeable characters, you will all fall in love with. Foodies sharing the love of food and family recipes …and real homes, no trickery or set design. Just their real home kitchens.

“Plus, an international food star will be joining me. The excitement and anticipation will be electric when you find out who will be joining the fun!”

The new-look MKR, to be produced by ITV Studios Australia, is set to screen on Seven after the Commonwealth Games.

  1. As long as it’s not the soap opera it degenerated into. If it is truly back to basics, then I’ll give it another go.

If you want to see a *real* cooking show, check out Masterchef: The Professional which starts this week on Foxtel’s Lifestyle Food channel.

  2. is this an emperors new clothes situation? MKR was always about the nastiness. Season 1 basically coined the term ‘kitchen bitch’n. The first ever round of instant restaurants was a ratings flop until the villain couple cooked, ratings skyrocketed and the rest is history. If anything MAFS emulated MKR.

  3. It’s just as well as the earlier seasons were more lighthearted and more sociable compared with the latter seasons where it seemed they were trying to emulate MAFS. I definitely tuned out when the drama came about. Cooking shows should be lighthearted and the nasty reality drama left for reality shows. It would also bode better for international sales of the show. I would have gone one step further and rebranded the show, but it does have some reputation for its name.

      1. I loved My Restaurant Rules. The reason it was cancelled though was that we here in Perth won the first season (that restaurant lasted a few years and then went belly up, think it was called Room Nineteen). People living in the east didn’t like that they lost, so Perth were given a terrible team for Season 2 basically to make sure we didn’t win, but HAHA Adelaide won it instead and not NSW or VIC. So that was the end of that show!!! I wish they’d bring it back, it would be good for the hospitality industry and get people excited to go out again.
