New episodes of Design Story: Byron Bay continue in April on design & architecture streamer Shelter -and for the observant viewers, it includes the location used in Nine Perfect Strangers.

Episode 3: The Eltham Hotel (12 mins) Australia 2022 (Available 4 April)
Julia Ashwood and her husband Matt Rabbidge were courting patrons of the Eltham Hotel before they became owners. They adored the historic village of Eltham, nestled in the hinterland and far removed from the bustle of Byron Bay. When Julia Ashwood suddenly became the proud new co-owner of The Eltham Hotel in 2019, she was tasked with bringing new life to the five guest rooms situated above the much loved local watering hole built in 1902.

Episode 4: Soma (12 mins) Australia 2022 (Available 11 April)
Gary Gorrow taught meditation for many years with a goal of one day teaching in a space of his own. When the time was right Gary turned to his brother, a hotelier residing in Bali, for design inspiration. The result was a bespoke architectural space more ambitious than Gary had ever imagined.

Episode 5: Las Palmas (12 mins) Australia 2022 (Available 18 April)
Sally McGarry grew up in Fenner House, a home designed by eminent Australian architect Robin Boyd and commissioned by her grandfather, Professor Frank Fenner, a virologist and pioneer of environmental design. Fond childhood memories of garden parties and family gatherings at Fenner House inspired Sally to recreate a visceral connection to nature and family life at Las Palmas, her home in Byron Bay.

Episode 6: The Range (12 mins) Australia 2022 (Available 25 April)
Childhood memories of the Canary Islands and a joint sabbatical in Spain became key influences on the design of Emma and Tom Lane’s finca inspired home, set amongst 120 acres of Byron hinterland. A last minute halt to the demolition of a 1980’s farm house on the property saw the Lanes come up with a design that incorporates many of the original features from the old homestead alongside distinctive Spanish elements.

Shelter, based in the Northern Rivers region of NSW, has seen first hand the devastating damage of the recent flooding in the area. And to lend a hand, Shelter will be donating 50% of all revenue from new sign ups during the release of Design Story to GIVIT, a national non-profit working with support organisations across Northern New South Wales to help people impacted by the floods here. 100% of publicly donated funds received by GIVIT for this appeal will be used to buy essential items and services for people affected by flooding in Northern New South Wales.
