What Doc Martin tells us about SAS Australia viewers…

You can practically set your watch to this. When SAS Australia screens on Seven, some older viewers head to 7TWO.

Many older viewers on the Seven network appear to prefer the grumpiness of Doctor Martin Ellingham than the blistering fury of Ant Middleton.

Almost without exception, a 7TWO show such as Doc Martin or Foyle’s War has topped multichannels on the nights that SAS Australia is struggling on the main channel -last night fourth in it slot at just 362,000 metro viewers.

At least the good news is those loyal viewers are staying within Seven’s network offer.

Once again Married at First Sight dominated at 977,000, defeating 7:30 (581,000), Australian Story (537,000) and Australian Survivor (501,000).

Later Four Corners led at 516,000 then Media Watch (501,000), La Brea (332,000), Would I Lie to You? (316,000), Royal History’s Myths & Secrets (163,000) and The Amazing Race (148,000 / 122,000).

Nine network won Monday with 31.2% then Seven 22.4%, 10 19.4%, 10 18.3% and SBS 8.7%.

Nine News was 903,000 / 900,000 for Nine. A Current Affair won its slot at 745,000 then Hot Seat 396,000 / 255,000. Nine News Late was 165,000. Footy Classified and 100% Footy returned to 78,000 / 54,000 respectively.

Seven News was #1 at 1.01m / 953,000 for Seven. The Chase was 562,000 / 347,000 then Home & Away (512,000).

The Project was 416,000 / 259,000 for 10. 10 News First pulled 348,000 / 239,000. FBI: Most Wanted managed 118,000.

ABC News drew 686,000 for ABC. China Tonight (203,000) and The Drum (163,000) followed.

On SBS it was Scotland: Escape to the Wilderness (178,000), SBS World News (164,000 / 140,000), Mastermind (84,000) and Great House Revival (77,000).

Yep, Doc Martin led multichannels at 127,000.

With a public holiday in Melbourne, breakfast numbers were softer yesterday.

Sunrise: 224,000
Today: 199,000
News Breakfast: 99,000 / 66,000

In Total TV numbers last Monday were:

  1. As David has pointed out before, SAS 7day catch up numbers are decent which I guess means 7 is likely to persist with it; the MAFS 7 day catchup numbers are state of origin numbers!

  2. For my 2 cents worth, I’ve enjoyed every season of SAS up until this one. I stopped watching it a week or so ago, as it turned into ‘SAS – The Locky Gilbert show’. I’m just so over him and his ego. It’s a real shame, as there others on the show I was really interested to learn more about, but they receive very little air time. If there is another season of SAS Australia I do hope they go back to concentrating on sport stars and entertainers and leave the ex-reality stars to other celebrity shows.

  3. I notice numbers don’t seem to have changed much between The Chase and Hot Seat since Larry took over. Happy that Larry is still number one, really like that guy!

    1. @ Jude, +1. He’s a wonderful, down-to-earth guy who has justly earned the repute as a distinguished and admired television star. He has a terrific sense of humour and posts a lot of heartening substance on his official Instagram page. The dud Nine Network attempted but failed to bring him back on at least two occasions. If I had it my way, he would be the highest paid Australian television personality because he throws the whole lot in all his endeavours. Much respect.

      1. Totally agree. The chemistry between Larry and and Kylie Gillies on The Morning Show is so genuine and his nice guy/I’m not bigger than Ben Hur attitude shows with his career longevity.
