Airdate: GolfBarons

Golfing lifestyle show will have its free-to-air TV debut alongside the US Masters.

Season 2 of locally produced lifestyle show, GolfBarons, will have its free-to-air TV debut this week, following the US Masters golf tournament coverage on 9GEM.

Hosts Shooter, Philbert and Kippa confront some of golf’s most enduring myths in a series of daring challenges, and test drive the latest equipment.

“Golf shows are traditionally known to be quite slow-paced, offering little for those who aren’t already passionate players of the game,” series creator and co-host Damian Shutie said.

“We wanted to make a show that brought people to the game, by celebrating the golf lifestyle, highlighting the fun and camaraderie associated with the game, and offering something entertaining to golfers and non-golfers alike.”

The last 24 months have seen GolfBarons debut with Foxtel, then securing worldwide distribution through Flame Media. On FOX Sports the show broke into their top 10 on multiple occasions.

Series director Davin Sgargetta said the Covid pandemic has been a blessing and a curse for the show, making production an ongoing challenge, but likely creating some opportunities at the same time.

“Like everybody in the industry, we’ve had difficulties associated with lockdowns, but by the same token, it has been a lack of sports content as a result of the pandemic that has likely opened some doors for us,” Sgargetta said.

“Having 12 episodes of a show ready for distribution at a time when global sports was effectively at a standstill was definitely a plus.”

“It’s the perfect situation for us, to be airing on Gem at a time when all of Australia’s golf fanatics are watching,” producer and co-host Phil Wall added.

“Word is spreading about our little show and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. But exposure on free-to-air at what is effectively the most ideal time of the year for a golf show will give awareness of our show a big boost.”

Season 3 currently in post-production.
