Geelong Grammar series for NITV

Off Country will follow Indigenous students entering an elite and privileged school, away from home.

EXCLUSIVE:

NITV has confirmed an upcoming observational series Off Country which centres around Indigenous students at Geelong Grammar.

Speaking at Screen Forever, NITV Head of Commissioning Kyas Hepworth said, “This follows the beautiful lives of young kids who are going to Geelong Grammar, and it is their experience of entering an elite and privileged school, and what’s that experience as a First Nation student? What does it mean to travel away and be a boarder and away from your country?”

Amongst Geelong Gramma’s notable alumni are Prince Charles, Rupert Murdoch, Kerry Packer, Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, John Fairfax, Malcolm Fraser, John Gorton, Alexander Downer, Charles Perkins, Missy Higgins, Portia de Rossi, Marta Dusseldorp, Simon Holmes à Court, Tim Burstall, mountaineer Tim Macartney-Snape, Helen Garner, Malaysian King Mizan Zainal Abidin of Terengganu.

Hepworth added, “This is what it means to be a contemporary First Nations Australia in 2022. And it’s very exciting and we can’t wait to screen it.”

A date is yet to be announced.
