“He lives and breathes television news”: Sunrise farewells Michael Pell

David Koch, Natalie Barr & Mark Beretta acknowledge outgoing executive producer after 11 years at the helm of breakfast show.

Sunrise presenters David Koch, Natalie Barr and Mark Beretta have farewelled executive producer Michael Pell who winds up at the Seven breakfast show tomorrow, after more than a decade in the role.

Amid a montage of production snaps, David Koch referred to Pell as one of the main reasons Sunrise has been so successful.

“It’s a bittersweet day here at Sunrise, our young executive producer is leaving for an exciting new role here at Seven,” he told viewers this morning.

“Michael has been here for 11 years, he’s led the show and our team with so much determination, he’s guided us through major breaking news, those history-making round-the-world broadcasts and show-stopping live concerts from some of the world’s biggest stars.

“We wish him every success, all jokes aside, he’s been a terrific leader,” he said.

“There are so many stories, good bad, funny, embarrassing. We’ll miss him.”

Seven recently appointed Pell as Senior Vice President, Entertainment Content, North America, and takes up the role in Los Angeles later this month. His final show at Sunrise will be an OB from Brisbane tomorrow.

“He’s fun, he’s dedicated, he’s an extraordinary executive producer. He lives and breathes television news,” Natalie Barr noted, and she “loved every day” working with him.

Sports presenter Mark Beretta added, “He’s such a creative guy, what he’s brought to Sunrise over the years, the things we’ve done that just took Michael’s spark to get done.”

“It has been an honour to lead the talented team for more than 11 years, and I thank every one of them for their hard work and dedication,” Pell previously said in a statement.

“The program is in great shape, and I have no doubt Kochie and Nat will continue to dominate the landscape.”

The Morning Show‘s Sarah Stinson was recently promoted to the newly created role of Director of Morning Television, meaning with Sean Power becoming executive producer at Sunrise and Chloe Flynn to exec produce The Morning Show.
