Shay recounts “brutal” Tribal Council

Men on the Survivor jury were brutal in their finale questions says runner-up Shay.

Australian Survivor runner-up Shayelle Lajoie has responded to fans asking why she didn’t get asked many questions in the final Tribal Council, which unanimously delivered the $500,000 prize to Mark Wales.

Despite the episode length, not all participants were seen posing a question to the final three.

On Instagram, Shay refers to a “brutal” Tribal in which some of the males on the jury interrupted with questions around “what big moves did you make?” The women acted with grace and kindness she adds.

That said, it’s a big prize and participants are all heavily invested. Nobody ever walks away without severe scrutiny -that’s the show.

More than a few TVT readers have commented on the editing of the final, and season overall …while it’s not all complimentary 10 can take it as passion for the show.

  1. Wow, if Shay thought that the Final Tribal was brutal, the editors must have cut out all the good stuff. When we were watching it, my wife and I thought we had fallen into the Disney channel, as the tribal appeared that meek…

  2. Sam and KJ’s Jury Villas were awful to watch. The boys ganged up on them at the feast and KJ was left in tears at the table when almost everyone else got up and left her “to make ice-cream”. I was really ashamed of those guys for being such poor sports.

  3. The Jury villa on 10play is very revealing, everyone had completely different personalities than they did on the show. Mel and Michelle were full of personality and very warm towards the other contestants as they got eliminated. Jordie, Jordan and especially Jesse were aggressive misoginist bullies, far from the happy-go-lucky types they were portrayed as on the show. Brought KJ to tears shortly after she entered the villa. Took it way too far.

Seemed to me that the whole season was in a much more toxic environment that we were lead to believe. Probably contributed to why the season felt so flat, the editors had to cut out a lot to keep up appearances.

    1. I don’t watch the jury villa, but the behaviour of the men does not surprise me at all. There was an underlying sense of misogyny and chauvinism throughout the season.

      1. I do agree about that underlying sense that you had (which may or may not be reality)… But the ultimate irony is that if I had to name 1 male that gave me the feeling the most; it was Shay’s partner!

  4. I can’t remember a final jury in any Survivor not asking the ‘what big moves did you make’ question. Shay needs to remember she was lucky to be there at all after already being voted off earlier.

    1. But that question could have simply been edited out. And based on the Jury Villa web-series (where female contestants typically got a salty reaction and male players got a hero’s welcome), I totally believe Shay’s account.

It is a shame that they didn’t show the question in question – it would have been a real, raw moment in an otherwise lacklustre final tribal (and season as a whole).
